Hunza Valley from Eagle's Nest with Rakaposhi, Karimabad and the Hunza River

Hunza Tour Packages from Lahore 2026

4 group tours and 4 private trips from Lahore

Our Hunza tour packages leave Lahore at 11 pm by Toyota Coaster from Thokar Niaz Baig or Barkat Market, and pick up Islamabad guests on the way at no extra charge. There are four group tours, 5 or 6 days, standard or luxury, from PKR 27,000 per person with hotels, breakfast, dinner and the Khunjerab Pass ticket included. They suit friends, families and first-time visitors who want Hunza without driving the Karakoram Highway themselves.

Every tour breaks the long drive with a night in Naran, crosses Babusar Top to the Karakoram Highway and spends two or three nights in Hunza or Nagar. You see Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones, the Hussaini bridge and the Khunjerab Pass on the Chinese border, and the 6-day tours add a day for Karimabad and Altit Fort.

Prices are per person in a room shared by 3 to 4 people. Children aged 3 to 9 pay a child price and children under 3 travel free. Group tours depart through the Babusar season, so WhatsApp us for the next date.

Places our Hunza tours visit

Most places our Hunza tours visit are on or near the Karakoram Highway, and the times below are from Karimabad. For all twenty places, with Ganish, Ultar Meadows, Sost and Shimshal, see our guide to places to visit in Hunza. Our group tours stop at the Rakaposhi View Point, Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones, the Hussaini bridge, the Khunjerab Pass and Karimabad, with Altit Fort on the 6-day tours. For Skardu and Fairy Meadows, see our Gilgit Baltistan tour packages.

Baltit Fort above the houses of Karimabad, Hunza

Karimabad and Baltit Fort

Karimabad is the main town of central Hunza, on a slope at about 2,500 m, with Baltit Fort above the old village. The Mirs of Hunza lived in the fort until the 1940s; it is now a museum with guided visits, about PKR 1,000 for Pakistanis and PKR 1,200 for foreigners in 2025, a steep ten-minute walk from the bazaar. Allow an hour, then shop for dried apricots, walnuts and woollen caps below.

Altit Fort and Altit village above the Hunza River in autumn

Altit Fort

Altit Fort is older and smaller than Baltit, on a cliff above the Hunza River about 3 km from Karimabad: ten minutes by car or a 40-minute walk down. Allow an hour for the fort, the garden and the old village. The guided tour was about PKR 1,600 per person in 2025 for visitors from outside Gilgit-Baltistan. Our 6-day tours visit it on day 3.

Visitors on the rocks at Eagle's Nest above the terraced fields of Duikar, Hunza

Eagle's Nest (Duikar)

A viewpoint at about 3,000 m above Duikar village, 20 to 30 minutes up a steep road from Altit, looking at Rakaposhi, Ladyfinger Peak and the Ultar range. People go for sunrise or sunset. A car manages in dry weather; after rain or snow a jeep is safer.

Rakaposhi above poplar trees and the Karakoram Highway

Rakaposhi View Point

At Ghulmet in Nagar, on the highway about an hour south of Karimabad, Rakaposhi (7,788 m) rises almost straight above the roadside cafes. Most people stop for 30 to 45 minutes on the way in. Clear mornings give the best view.

Turquoise Attabad Lake between steep mountains in upper Hunza

Attabad Lake

The lake formed in January 2010, when a landslide blocked the Hunza River, and it now fills more than 20 km of the old valley. It is 30 to 40 minutes from Karimabad through the Pakistan-China friendship tunnels. Boats and jet skis run from the main jetty at prices set locally each season; plan one to two hours.

Poplar trees in Gulmit with the Passu Cones behind

Gulmit

Gulmit, the largest village in Gojal or Upper Hunza, is about an hour from Karimabad, past the end of Attabad Lake. It is quieter, with old Wakhi houses and orchards, and the Hussaini bridge, Borith Lake and Passu are all within about 20 minutes.

Wooden planks of the Hussaini Suspension Bridge over the Hunza River

Hussaini Suspension Bridge

A long bridge of wooden planks on steel cables over the Hunza River between Gulmit and Passu, a short walk from the highway, with wide gaps and plenty of sway. The village charges a small fee. Give it half an hour; it is not for small children or anyone afraid of heights.

The Passu Cones above the Hunza River bed and Passu village trees

Passu Cones and Passu Glacier

Passu is about 75 minutes north of Karimabad. The jagged Tupopdan peak (6,106 m) above it is what everyone calls the Passu Cones, best photographed from the highway south of the village. The Passu Glacier is a short walk from the road; allow an hour.

Borith Lake below barren hills near Gulmit, upper Hunza

Borith Lake

A small, quiet lake at about 2,600 m above Hussaini, 15 to 20 minutes up a rough road by car or jeep, or an hour on foot. It suits travellers who spend a night in Gulmit or Passu.

Pakistan China border gate at the Khunjerab Pass in snow

Khunjerab Pass

The border with China at 4,693 m, about 170 km and three to four hours from Karimabad via Sost and Khunjerab National Park, where the park fee is paid at the gate (about PKR 500 for Pakistanis in 2026, included on our group tours). It is cold and windy even in July and the air is thin, so keep the stop to 20 or 30 minutes. Every group tour goes here, with the ticket included.

Crevassed ice and a meltwater pool on the Hopar Glacier, Nagar

Hopper Glacier in Nagar

A side road crosses the river below Karimabad and climbs through the Nagar villages to Hopper, about an hour away, where the glacier fills the valley below a ring of peaks. Half a day is enough. Hopper is also the start of the trek to Rush Lake, five to seven days there and back.

How our Hunza group tours work

The Toyota Coaster leaves Lahore at 11 pm from Thokar Niaz Baig or Barkat Market. Islamabad guests are picked up on the way at no extra charge, around 3 am, at a point near the motorway or GT Road that we share with booked guests before departure. The same coaster and a tour guide stay with the group for the whole trip.

Rooms are shared by 3 to 4 people. We book hotels for your dates on availability and confirm them before departure; we do not publish hotel names in advance. A couple who wants a room of their own can pay the private room price shown on each tour page.

Which Hunza tour package suits you?

All four group tours take the same road and all of them visit the Khunjerab Pass. The 5-day tours give one full day in Hunza for Attabad Lake, Passu and Khunjerab. The 6-day tours sleep three nights in Nagar, near the Rakaposhi View Point, and add a day for Karimabad and Altit Fort.

Luxury tours use the same route and coaster with a better hotel and better food, for PKR 6,000 more per person. Standard tours suit students and friends who mainly want to see the places.

Best time to visit Hunza and the weather by month

The best time to visit Hunza is April to October: apricot and cherry blossom in early April, warm days from May to September and yellow poplars in late October. For a road trip from Lahore, the date that decides the route is Babusar Top, the pass between Naran and Chilas. It usually opens in mid-June and closes in late September or early October.

Our group tours run while Babusar is open. June and September are quieter; July and August are the busiest months and seats go early. For blossom or autumn colour the road goes via Besham, so we plan those as private trips on request. Hunza stays open in winter, but nights are well below freezing, power cuts are common and the Khunjerab Pass is closed to tourists.

How to reach Hunza from Lahore and Islamabad

From Lahore the road takes the M-2 to Islamabad, the Hazara Motorway to Mansehra and the N-15 through Balakot to Naran. Day two crosses Babusar Top to Chilas and follows the Karakoram Highway along the Indus, through Gilgit to Karimabad. When Babusar is closed, from about October to mid-June, the only road is the Karakoram Highway via Besham: open all year, but slower, with narrow stretches through Kohistan.

PIA flies from Islamabad to Gilgit in about an hour, and Karimabad is two hours on by road, but flights are often cancelled in bad weather, so keep a spare day. Karachi travellers usually fly or take the train to Lahore or Islamabad and join there.

Before you go: CNIC, signal, cash, altitude and packing

Pakistani travellers need only their original CNIC; there is no permit for Hunza or Khunjerab beyond the national park ticket. Checkposts on the Babusar road and the Karakoram Highway may note your CNIC number, and children should carry a B-form.

SCOM, Zong, Jazz and Telenor work in Karimabad, Aliabad and Gilgit, with gaps on the Babusar road and towards Khunjerab. ATMs can run out on peak weekends, so bring most of your cash from home; boats, fort counters, jeeps and small cafes take cash only.

Karimabad is fine for almost everyone, but many people get a headache at the Khunjerab Pass, so walk slowly, drink water and stay in the coaster if you feel unwell. People are conservative in dress: wear loose, modest clothes and ask before photographing women.

What to pack for a Hunza tour

A summer day can be warm at Attabad Lake and freezing at Khunjerab a few hours later, so pack in layers.

  • A warm jacket and an extra layer, even in July
  • Walking shoes with grip for the fort lanes and the Hussaini bridge
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen and a cap
  • Your CNIC, B-forms for children and any medicines you take
  • A power bank and a small torch for power cuts

Booking, payment and cancellation

To book, send us the tour, the date and the number of travellers on WhatsApp or through our contact page. A 30% advance confirms your seats, and the rest is paid at departure. We confirm the hotel and the Islamabad pickup point before you leave.

If you cancel more than 7 days before departure, we refund 75% of what you paid. Between 5 and 7 days before departure we refund 50%. Cancellations in the last 4 days before departure, and no-shows, are not refunded. The full terms and conditions are on our site.

Hunza tour packages FAQs

How much is a Hunza tour package from Lahore in 2026?

Our Hunza group tours from Lahore cost PKR 27,000 per person for 5 days standard, PKR 33,000 for 5 days luxury, PKR 32,000 for 6 days standard and PKR 38,000 for 6 days luxury. Prices are per person in a room for 3 to 4 people and include the coaster, hotels, breakfast, dinner and the Khunjerab ticket.

When is the best time to visit Hunza?

April to October. Early April brings apricot and cherry blossom, May to September is the warm main season and late October has yellow poplars. By road through Naran, travel between mid-June and late September, when Babusar Top is usually open; our group tours run in that window. July and August are the busiest months.

How many days do you need for a Hunza tour from Lahore?

Five days is the minimum, because the road takes two days each way with a night in Naran. That gives one full day in Hunza for Attabad Lake, Passu and the Khunjerab Pass. Choose six days if you also want Karimabad and Altit Fort, since the 6-day tours spend three nights in Nagar.

Where does the Hunza tour leave from in Lahore, and at what time?

The coaster leaves at 11 pm from Thokar Niaz Baig or Barkat Market in Lahore, and you choose the point that suits you when you book. Departures run through the Babusar season, from about mid-June to late September, so WhatsApp us for the next date.

Can I join the Hunza tour from Islamabad?

Yes, at no extra charge. Islamabad guests are picked up on the way north at around 3 am, at a point near the motorway or GT Road that we share with booked guests before departure. On the way back you are dropped in Islamabad. The price is the same as from Lahore.

Show 12 more questions

How far is Hunza from Islamabad, and how long is the drive?

Karimabad is about 575 km from Islamabad, 12 to 14 hours of driving via Naran and Babusar Top, so most people split it with a night in Naran or Chilas. When Babusar is closed, the Karakoram Highway via Besham takes longer. From Lahore it is about 930 km, which our tours do over two days.

Can you fly to Hunza?

Not directly. Hunza has no airport; the nearest is Gilgit, about 100 km and two hours away by road. PIA flies from Islamabad to Gilgit in about an hour, but the flights depend on clear weather and are often cancelled, so keep a spare day. Our group tours go by road.

What is the difference between the standard and luxury Hunza tour?

The route, coaster, guide and sightseeing are the same. The luxury tours use a higher category of hotel and better food at breakfast and dinner, and cost PKR 6,000 more per person on both the 5-day and the 6-day trip. On both, rooms are shared by 3 to 4 people.

How many people share a room, and which hotels do you use?

Rooms are shared by 3 to 4 people on all our Hunza group tours. We book standard or luxury category hotels in Naran, Hunza or Nagar on availability and confirm the hotel before departure, but we do not publish names in advance. A couple who wants a room of their own pays the private room price listed on each tour page.

Are meals included on the Hunza tour?

Breakfast and dinner are included every day, served as a one-dish buffet, with better food on the luxury tours. One evening is a BBQ night with a bonfire and music. Lunch is not included because it falls on the road; we stop at roadside restaurants where you pay for your own meal.

Is the Khunjerab Pass included, and is it open all year?

Yes, every Hunza group tour drives to the Khunjerab Pass (4,693 m) and the national park ticket is in the price. The pass has always closed to traffic from December to March because of snow. Our tours run in summer, when it is open.

What happens if Babusar Top is closed or a landslide blocks the road?

If Babusar Top is closed on your dates, the coaster takes the Karakoram Highway via Besham, and we tell you the changed plan before you pay the advance. Landslides after rain usually close the road for a few hours. The driver and guide wait for it to clear and adjust the day so you still see the main places.

Is there a child price on Hunza tours?

Yes. Children aged 3 to 9 pay a child price: PKR 19,000 on the 5-day standard tour, PKR 23,000 on the 5-day luxury, PKR 22,500 on the 6-day standard and PKR 26,500 on the 6-day luxury. Children under 3 travel free, and children aged 10 and over pay the adult price.

What should I pack for a Hunza tour?

A warm jacket even in July, because Babusar Top and the Khunjerab Pass are cold and windy. Add walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, your original CNIC, any medicines and enough cash for lunch, the boat and fort tickets, since few places take cards.

Is a Hunza group tour safe for families and women?

Yes. Hunza is one of the safest areas in Pakistan for visitors, including families and women, and a tour guide stays with the group for the whole trip. The main risks are the mountain roads, landslides after rain and the altitude at the Khunjerab Pass, so anyone who feels unwell at the top can stay in the coaster.

Can we book a private Hunza tour from Karachi or another city?

Yes. Private trips with your own car and driver can start from any city in Pakistan; couples from Karachi usually fly to Islamabad and meet the driver there. Our Hunza honeymoon packages start at PKR 250,000 per couple for 8 days. For a family or a group of friends, send us your dates and start city and we will price the trip.

How much advance do I pay, and what is your cancellation policy?

A 30% advance confirms the booking and the rest is paid at departure. Cancel more than 7 days before departure and we refund 75% of what you paid; 5 to 7 days before, we refund 50%. Cancellations in the last 4 days before departure, and no-shows, are not refunded.
