How many people share a room on the group tour?
+
Three to four people per room, in a hotel in Bahrain for both nights. We confirm the hotel before departure, based on availability for your dates. Couples who want a room of their own can ask for one at an extra charge when they book.
Do you have Swat honeymoon packages?
+
Yes, two. The 3-day Swat honeymoon tour has a private car and driver and two nights at Serena Swat, for PKR 90,000 per couple. The 5-day Swat Kalam tour adds two nights in Kalam and a private jeep to Mahodand Lake, for PKR 110,000 per couple. Meals are not included on honeymoon tours.
Can we book a private Swat tour from Karachi or another city?
+
Yes. Our private tours can start from any city in Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. The published plans start in Islamabad; tell us your city and dates and we will quote the extra driving. Karachi travellers on a budget often fly to Lahore or Islamabad and join a group tour.
Is there a child price on the Swat group tours?
+
Yes. Children aged 3 to 9 pay PKR 10,500 on the standard tour and PKR 12,500 on the luxury tour. Children under 3 travel free. Children share the family room, which holds 3 to 4 people.
What is the best time to visit Swat?
+
April to October. For Kalam and Mahodand Lake go from June to September, because the lake and its jeep track are usually under snow until late May. April, May, September and October suit lower Swat, when it is neither hot nor crowded. July and August are the busiest months and bring the monsoon.
How far is Swat from Lahore and Islamabad?
+
Mingora is about 565 km from Lahore, 7 to 8 hours on the M-2, M-1 and Swat Motorway, and about 235 km or 4 hours from Islamabad. Kalam is about 660 km from Lahore and 330 km from Islamabad. Our coaster leaves Lahore at 11 pm and drives overnight, so you reach Mingora for breakfast.
How many days do I need for Swat and Kalam?
+
Three days covers Malam Jabba, Bahrain, Kalam, Ushu Forest and Mahodand Lake if you travel overnight from Lahore, as our group tours do. Two days from Islamabad is enough for lower Swat only. For Utror, Gabral, the Buddhist sites and a slower pace, plan four to five days, like our 5-day private Swat Kalam tour.
What are the main places to visit in Swat?
+
Malam Jabba for the chairlift and snow; Mingora with the Swat Museum and Butkara Stupa; Marghazar and the White Palace; the river towns of Madyan and Bahrain; and Kalam with Ushu Forest and Mahodand Lake. With more time, add Miandam and the Utror and Gabral valleys above Kalam.
When does it snow in Swat and Malam Jabba?
+
Snow usually reaches Malam Jabba and Kalam in December, and the Malam Jabba slopes are skied mainly in January and February. Mingora itself rarely gets snow. Mahodand Lake and the tracks above Kalam stay snowbound from about November to late May, so a winter trip means snow scenes, not lakes.
Is a Swat tour safe for families?
+
Yes. Swat has been open to tourists since 2009 and is one of the busiest family destinations in Pakistan. Pakistanis need no permit, but every adult needs an original CNIC for police and army check posts. Our guide stays with the group all trip. Keep children back from the river, which is fast and cold.
Is there mobile signal and an ATM in Kalam?
+
Jazz and Zong work in Kalam town, but there is little or no signal at Mahodand Lake, Utror or Gabral. Kalam has very few ATMs and they can run out in peak season, so draw cash in Mingora for jeeps, food and tickets before you drive up the valley.
