Badshahi Mosque and its red sandstone minarets reflected in still water, Lahore

Lahore City Tour 2026: Walled City, Lahore Fort and Wagah Border

Private city tours with car and driver, any day, on request

Our Lahore city tours are private: your own car and driver from your hotel or house, on the day you choose. Most guests start with the Mughal city, Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque on either side of the Hazuri Bagh, then walk the Walled City from Delhi Gate past the Shahi Hammam and Wazir Khan Mosque. In the afternoon the car takes you out to the Wagah border for the flag ceremony, or across the Ravi to the tomb of Jahangir, and the evening ends on Fort Road with dinner facing the mosque. We are a Lahore company, and every one of our tours starts here.

There is no fixed group tour and no set price, because the cost turns on the car, the hours and what you add. Message us your date, how many of you there are and where you are staying, on WhatsApp or through the contact page, and we will send a plan and a quote. If you only need a car, the Lahore rent a car page has the cars and daily rates.

Coming from Islamabad, or heading there next? The Islamabad city tour page covers the capital in the same way, and Rohtas Fort is a full day trip on the GT Road between the two.

Places on our Lahore city tours

Most of the Mughal city lies inside or right beside the old walls in the north of Lahore, close to the Ravi. The gardens and tombs are 20 to 40 minutes out, east along the GT Road and across the river in Shahdara.

The white towers and arched entrance of the Alamgiri Gate, Lahore Fort

Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila)

There was a fort here before the Mughals, but the one you walk through was rebuilt by Akbar from the 1560s and filled with palaces by Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb added the Alamgiri Gate, the main entrance today, facing the Badshahi Mosque. Inside are the Diwan-e-Aam, where the emperor gave public audience, the Naulakha pavilion and the Moti Masjid. UNESCO listed the fort, together with the Shalimar Gardens, as a World Heritage Site in 1981.

The outer north and west walls carry the Picture Wall, hundreds of metres of tile and fresco panels of elephants, polo players and court scenes from the reigns of Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Most visitors walk past them on the way in; ask the driver to drop you on the Picture Wall side first.

The fort opens at 8 am and closes half an hour before sunset. Tickets are PKR 100 for Pakistanis, PKR 30 for students and PKR 1,000 for foreigners, bought at the gate.

An arch covered in mirror mosaic inside the Sheesh Mahal, Lahore Fort

Sheesh Mahal

The Sheesh Mahal, the palace of mirrors, was built for Shah Jahan in the 1630s in the north-west corner of the fort. Its walls and ceilings are covered in tiny pieces of convex mirror set into white plaster, so that one candle once lit the whole room. It is the part of the fort people photograph most, and the best reason to go inside early before the groups.

The three white marble domes and red sandstone minarets of the Badshahi Mosque

Badshahi Mosque

Aurangzeb built the Badshahi Mosque in 1671 to 1673, and for more than three centuries it was the largest mosque in the world. Its red sandstone courtyard is said to hold around 100,000 people at Eid. The three marble domes and four tall minarets face the fort across the Hazuri Bagh garden, where the poet Allama Iqbal is buried beside the mosque steps and the samadhi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh stands just behind.

Dress modestly, with a scarf for women, and leave your shoes at the gate. Avoid Friday prayer time, and remember that the stone gets very hot underfoot on summer afternoons.

The courtyard, minarets and tiled prayer hall of Wazir Khan Mosque, Lahore

Wazir Khan Mosque

Wazir Khan, Shah Jahan's governor of Lahore, built this mosque inside the Walled City in the 1630s and early 1640s. It is smaller than the Badshahi but far richer inside: almost every surface is covered in glazed kashi tiles and painted fresco, with calligraphy over the arches. The square in front, Wazir Khan Chowk, was cleared and restored by the Walled City authority with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, and is one of the best places to sit in old Lahore.

Painted floral frescoes in the central dome of the Shahi Hammam, Lahore

Delhi Gate and the Shahi Hammam

Delhi Gate, on the east side of the old city, is where the road from Delhi entered Lahore, and where the Walled City walk begins. A few steps inside is the Shahi Hammam, the bathhouse Wazir Khan built in 1635. It was restored over several years in the 2010s, and its domes are now among the best-preserved Mughal frescoes anywhere.

From here the Royal Trail, the Shahi Guzargah, runs through Kashmiri Bazaar and past the gilded domes of the Sunehri Masjid to the fort, the route the emperors took into Lahore.

Restored old houses lit up at night on Fort Road Food Street, Lahore

Fort Road Food Street

Fort Road Food Street runs below the Badshahi Mosque, and the rooftop restaurants in its restored houses look straight at the minarets. Come after dark, when the mosque is lit, for karahi, tikka and naan. It is the usual end to a full day tour, and it is busy, so we book a table on weekends.

Minar-e-Pakistan lit up against a purple dusk sky, Lahore

Minar-e-Pakistan

Minar-e-Pakistan stands in Greater Iqbal Park, across the road from the fort, on the ground where the Lahore Resolution calling for Pakistan was passed on 23 March 1940. The tower, about 70 m tall, was finished in 1968. It is best seen in the evening, lit up, on the way back from Wagah.

A red sandstone pavilion on a terrace of the Shalimar Gardens, Lahore

Shalimar Gardens

Shah Jahan laid out the Shalimar Gardens in 1641 and 1642, east of the old city off the GT Road. Three terraces step down past long water channels, marble pavilions and hundreds of fountains. They are at their best in the cool months, early in the morning, and on the same World Heritage listing as the fort. The Walled City authority now also opens them in the evening.

The garden walk to the Tomb of Jahangir with its minarets behind the trees, Shahdara

Tomb of Jahangir in Shahdara

Across the Ravi in Shahdara, Shah Jahan built a tomb for his father Jahangir, finished in 1637. It is a long, low building of red sandstone with white marble inlay and a minaret at each corner, in a walled garden. Nur Jahan, Jahangir's wife, and her brother Asif Khan are buried close by. It is far quieter than the fort.

The red brick domes and towers of the Lahore Museum on The Mall

Lahore Museum

The Lahore Museum on The Mall, in its red brick building from the 1890s, has the best Gandhara collection in the country, including the Fasting Buddha from Sikri, as well as Mughal miniatures and coins. The big bronze cannon outside is the Zamzama, Kipling's Kim's gun. Allow an hour and a half.

How our Lahore city tours work

You choose the start time and the plan, and the car stays with you all day. The Walled City is done on foot, because its lanes are too narrow for a car; the driver drops you at Delhi Gate and meets you at the fort or wherever the walk ends. A sedan seats up to three adults in comfort, and families and groups get a bigger car, a Hiace or a coaster.

Entry tickets, meals and the ceremony seats at Wagah are paid or arranged on the day. If you want an English-speaking guide for the fort and the old city as well as the driver, ask when you book.

  • Pickup: your hotel or house anywhere in Lahore, or Allama Iqbal International Airport
  • Car: a sedan for up to three adults; an SUV, Hiace or coaster for larger groups
  • Length: half day (about 4 to 5 hours), full day (about 9 to 10 hours with Wagah) or an evening
  • On foot: the Walled City walk, about 2 hours at an easy pace
  • Paid on the day: tickets for the fort, the Shahi Hammam and the museums, food and parking

Full day Lahore city tour: a sample day

This order does the walking in the cool of the morning and finishes at Wagah, which runs to sunset. In winter, when the ceremony is earlier, we cut the Walled City walk shorter.

Wagah border ceremony

Every evening since 1959, Pakistan Rangers and India's Border Security Force have lowered their flags together at the Wagah border, about 30 km east of central Lahore. The soldiers high-kick and stamp, the crowds on both sides chant and cheer, and the gates slam shut as the flags come down at sunset. The ceremony is still held, though the crossing itself has been closed to ordinary travellers since 2025.

Timing follows sunset, so it is earlier in winter than in summer. Leave central Lahore at least two hours before, because the road is slow in the evening and the stands fill up. Entry is usually free, but you pass a security check: carry your CNIC, or your passport if you are a foreign visitor, and leave large bags in the car. Foreign visitors are usually seated in a separate section.

Lahore by night

Since October 2026 the Walled City of Lahore Authority opens Lahore Fort and the Shalimar Gardens at night, from 7 to 11 pm, with the Sheesh Mahal, the Picture Wall, the Diwan-e-Aam and the Diwan-e-Khas lit up. The night ticket is PKR 1,000 for Pakistanis, PKR 500 for children aged 3 to 10 and PKR 2,000 for foreigners. Paired with dinner on Fort Road and Minar-e-Pakistan on the way, it is the best way to see Lahore in summer, when days are too hot to walk.

Food on a Lahore city tour

Lahore is the food capital of Pakistan, and many guests plan the day around it. Breakfast is halwa puri with chickpeas, or nihari and paye in the old city. Lunch on a tour is usually on Fort Road. Gawalmandi and Lakshmi Chowk are the old evening food streets, and in winter Lahori fried fish is sold all over the city.

  • Halwa puri: fried bread with semolina halwa and chickpeas, the Sunday breakfast
  • Nihari: slow-cooked beef stew, eaten in the morning with naan
  • Lassi: thick yoghurt drink, sweet or salty, best in summer
  • Karahi and tikka: the Fort Road dinner
  • Lahori fish: spiced fried fish, a winter dish

Best time for a Lahore city tour

October to March is the best time to walk Lahore. From November to January, though, smog often hangs over the city, and on bad days the views from the fort are grey and the air is hard on children and older people. Check the air quality the day before. February and March are clear and mild, and the gardens are in flower.

From May to August the temperature goes over 40 °C, sometimes towards 45, and the July and August monsoon brings sudden downpours. In summer we start at 7 or 8 am, rest in the middle of the day, and use the fort's night opening in the evening.

Tips for your Lahore city tour

Lahore is busy, friendly and used to visitors. Traffic is the main thing to plan for: the roads around the old city are slow from late afternoon, so build in time.

  • Dress modestly for the Badshahi and Wazir Khan mosques; women need a scarf
  • Wear comfortable shoes for the Walled City and the fort
  • Carry your CNIC or passport for Wagah and for checkpoints
  • Carry cash for tickets, food stalls and parking
  • In summer, plan the walking for early morning and evening

Lahore city tour FAQs

What does a Lahore city tour include?

A private car with driver for the hours you book, pickup and drop-off at your hotel, house or the airport, and a plan for the day. The Walled City is walked on foot. Tickets and meals are paid on the spot.

Can you see Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and Wagah in one day?

Yes. Do the fort, the mosque and the Walled City in the morning and early afternoon, then leave for Wagah about two hours before sunset. That makes a day of 9 to 10 hours.

What time is the Wagah border ceremony?

It runs every evening and ends at sunset, so it is earlier in winter and later in summer. Leave central Lahore at least two hours before sunset; the road is slow and the stands fill up.

How much does a Lahore city tour cost?

It is priced per car, not per person, so a family sharing one car pays much less each than a solo traveller. The car, the hours and add-ons such as Wagah set the price. WhatsApp us your date for a quote.

Is Lahore Fort open at night?

Yes. Since October 2026 the Walled City of Lahore Authority opens Lahore Fort and the Shalimar Gardens from 7 to 11 pm. The night ticket is PKR 1,000 for Pakistanis, PKR 500 for children aged 3 to 10 and PKR 2,000 for foreigners; the day ticket is PKR 100, PKR 30 for students and PKR 1,000 for foreigners.

Show 3 more questions

Long trousers or a long dress, arms covered, and a scarf for women. Shoes are left at the gate. Avoid Friday prayer time.

What is the best time of year for a Lahore city tour?
